Local businesses can keep tax dollars local while supporting early childhood education with School Readiness Tax Credit

Jefferson Ready Start Network (JRSN), a coalition of community partners committed to expanding access to high-quality early education, is leading the local implementation of the School Readiness Tax Credit (SRTC). This unique opportunity allows local businesses to invest directly in the future of Jefferson Parish’s youngest learners while keeping their tax dollars in the community at no additional cost.

The School Readiness Tax Credit is a refundable credit applied to Louisiana State taxes, enabling businesses to make meaningful contributions to early care and education. Through JRSN’s SRTC initiative, businesses can contribute up to $5,000 to the organization’s Future Fund, which supports efforts to enhance early education access for all children in the parish. The amount donated is deducted dollar for dollar from the business’s tax liability, meaning businesses can both invest in the community and reduce their state taxes simultaneously.

“This initiative not only keeps tax dollars within Jefferson Parish but also supports a vital cause—ensuring all children have access to the quality early care and education that will set them up for success,” said JRSN executive director Sarintha Stricklin. “Participating in the SRTC program is a smart business decision and a meaningful way to contribute to the future of our workforce and economy.”

Business owners can claim the credit on their annual Louisiana State taxes, and if their contribution exceeds their tax burden, they will receive a refund for the difference. JRSN will also refund any portion of the contribution that does not qualify for the credit, ensuring there is no financial risk to participants.

Research consistently shows that high-quality early care and education not only fosters healthy child development but also leads to better lifelong outcomes. Additionally, it supports the current workforce by allowing parents to participate in the economy and boosts long-term economic growth for the entire community.

JRSN encourages all business owners in Jefferson Parish to take advantage of this opportunity to support the future of early education. For more information about the School Readiness Tax Credit, visit the JRSN SRTC page, which includes FAQ and resources for getting involved today.
